During my recent romantic escape to the Gladstone Hotel in Fairlie, I found a charming blend of old-world character and warm hospitality awaiting us. Although the building has certainly seen better days, the cleanliness and coziness of our spacious room truly made up for it, offering us a perfect retreat after our adventures exploring the breathtaking New Zealand landscape. We particularly enjoyed the complimentary breakfast, which was abundant and hit the spot for both my partner and me-who doesn't appreciate a solid start to a day full of cycling, kayaking, and soaking in the vivid turquoise lakes? One evening, we decided to dine at the on-site restaurant, where we indulged in a delightful seafood platter that was incredibly satisfying without breaking the bank. It's amazing how a good meal can enhance the travel experience! The real highlight, however, was seemingly endless nights beneath the stars at the Aoraki Mackenzie International Dark Sky Reserve-a truly magical experience! And let's not forget about Karen, the lovely staff member who made us feel right at home, embodying the true spirit of hospitality here.
